Inspiration for a painting often comes from moments of quiet reflection, in watching the play of light, translating the shapes and patterns created in its path. I would like to bring the viewer into a shared experience, a moment of pleasure, a recognition of beauty, a sense of hope. I enjoy using strong value patterns to add visual excitement and to create a compelling structure to the compositions. I get the most gratification if
I'm able to evoke an emotional response. This is true whether I'm painting from life or nonreferentially. Themes of hope and contentment enter
into my work as I glean subject matter from nature and everyday experiences and express them with an emotive combination of colour, shape and texture.
Alberta born, Cindy Bouwers is an artist and designer. After obtaining her BFA in Visual Communication Design and building a career as an accomplished graphic designer, as well as teaching design courses at the Alberta College of Art and Design, she decided to explore a long buried desire to paint and pursue her own artwork. This has led her along a new creative path and resulted in a rich body of work informed by her design background. Cindy has been juried into a number of group shows in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto and in 2019 won the Duggan Landscape Award presented by the Society of Canadian Artists for her landscape painting titled Gust and Flurry. A highlight of 2020, Of a Certain Age, was presented at the Leighton Art Centre along with Jean Pederson. Cindy is a juried, active member of the Calgary Artist's Society and the Riverview Artists Group.
